Oblon Spivak Partner Elected to AIPLA Board ofDirectors

Alexandria, VA – Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, L.L.P. is pleased to announce that partner W. Todd Baker has been elected to a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the AmericanIntellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA). Mr. Baker will start his term at the AIPLA’s Annual meeting in October 2012.

“We are very pleased that Todd has been elected to serve on the AIPLA Board of Directors, and we congratulate him on this well-deserved andesteemed honor” said Bradley Lytle, Oblon Spivak’s Managing Partner. “Todd was recognized last year by the Washington Business Journal as one of the Top 25 Minority Business Leaders in the Washington Metropolitan area, and we are extremely proud of his accomplishments and contributions to the firm and to our clients.”

Mr. Baker previously served as the Chair of the AIPLA Diversity Committee, which works to increase the number of diverse students that enter into the IP profession and as the Chair of the AIPLA’s USPTO Inter Partes Patent Proceedings Committee (formerly known as the Interference Committee).

As a key partner at Oblon Spivak, Mr. Baker chairs the Patent Interferences practice group, is Vice-Chair of the firm’s hiring and retention committee and is a team leader of the firm’s Post Grant Patent Proceedings group responsible for mechanical technologies, nanotechnology, e-commerce and medical devices. He also contributes to the Patents Post Grant Law Blog, providing insights and commentary on existing and proposed post-grant options, trends, practice tips and news relating to patent reexamination, reissue and the new post grant procedures introduced by the Leahy Smith America Invents Act.

The American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) is a national bar association constituted primarily of lawyers in private and corporate practice, in government service, and in the academic community, with approximately 16,000 members.
